About: The field of natural product chemistry in Brazil has contributed for over 70 years with valuable
information published in several scientific articles on chemical structures produced by species of
Brazilian biodiversity. Having a well-organized dataset allows research leaders, to perform specialized
analyses, establish connections and discover trends that would not be possible without the compilation
of data. Enabling continuous access to this information is important for the advancement of science and
technology. Many initiatives, such as machine learning and Artificial Intelligence algorithms, also rely
heavily on organized and good quality data. The Brazilian Biodiversity Natural Products Database allows
scientists from all sectors to search the chemistry of natural bioactive compounds.
Data compilation in the BrNPDB has been carried out since 2010 in a cooperation between the
University of São Paulo (USP) and the São Paulo State University (Unesp), pioneers in the development
of the “NuBBE Database of Brazilian Biodiversity – NuBBEDB” the first version of this database [Valli et
al., 2013; Pilon et al., 2017; http://nubbe.iq.unesp.br/portal/nubbedb.html]. With the continuation of
this research, currently named BrNPDB, this is the most complete database on this content in Brazil.
